A plain sheet of paper becomes refined art, just by adding thoughts. A brief guide:
Opening a journal or sketchbook to a blank page with a pencil or pen in hand is the moment your imagination becomes that of a child once again. There are no rules. No one has assigned a topic or a word count. The blankness of the paper awaits whatever may conjure in your mind.
What amazing power looms with a pen and simple sheet of paper.
If you exhale, and allow it to happen, your mind can unseal a store of consciousness. Whether words will be shared with others or just expelled from your mind in great, personal release, these simple scribing moments can find inspiration just from your current emotions or the scene around you.
Vincent van Gogh once sat near a small window in a cheap, rented room writing one of his now well-known letters to his beloved brother Theo. As Vincent viewed the sights just outside his diminutive window, he was stirred by the simplicity of light rays cast from a lamppost against the backdrop of the twilight sky. He told his brother in the letter that he must share the scene with him. van Gogh made a very simple sketch on a rough piece of paper to send along with the letter, to his dear brother.
The humble lamppost standing in solitude, spoke to the lonely heart of a brother who became inspired to share a moment by putting it on a plain sheet of paper. He created a beautiful connection and an elegant experience for the receiver.
A simple thought is often the purest form of expression.
Italian artist Georgio Vasari believed, ”rough sketches, which are born in an instant in the heat of inspiration, express the idea of their author in a few strokes, while on the other hand too much effort and diligence sometimes saps the vitality and powers of those who never know when to leave off.”
How true this is. Often the most delicious recipe is the simplest, with the fewest ingredients.
We have all felt those moments of inspiration. When the soul is churning to express itself there is no need to strain. It purely happens.
Create elegance on paper by starting with simplicity.
Do not ponder too long. Look around you. Put pen to paper and exhale.
Feel. Create. Express yourself. Enjoy the moment!
